    Artist Statement
"The heart and soul of a New Zealand landscape……my aim is to capture this essence on canvas.”

Without painting a specific landscape or place, I try to create the aspects of the land and feel of the place in the work. I am not a true, realist painter in any way, more an accidental one, re-creating what I see is not my strong point so I don’t concentrate on correctness and rarely paint from an image. For me, this is satisfying and confusing at the same time. Satisfying to draw on memory for self expression and confusing when one memory joins another. This however, can make the artwork all the better.”

    Native New Zealand
"These works celebrate the rich and diverse landscape and culture that is so unique and special to New Zealand and its people.

If you’ve ever flown on a clear New Zealand day (and been blessed with a window seat) you will have seen how rugged diverse and beautiful our landscape is from the air. I did…. I was mesmerized.

In this series of works I have used various mediums and textiles in an attempt to make the works actually feel like the landscapes and forms they depict.

The rich warm colours and hews are not new to my work; however the way in which they are applied is. I hope the viewer will see something of what they expect from my work as well as something new.”
