Claire Worrall

  • Project Details

Claire Worrall has been exhibiting as an artist since 1993 and has won numerous awards. Her work is held in private and public collections throughout New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom. She is also a professionally trained Secondary School Art and Design Teacher.

Worrall typically produces enigmatic and moody landscapes, enriched with spiritual qualities: even narratives, rather than "representing a scene”. These works are the result of the: "hypnotic impact that our suede covered mountains, hinterlands and hillscapes”, have on her.

When Worrall is not painting landscapes her mixed media works demonstrate her interest in combining traditional and contemporary methods and media. In these, sentimental objects rendered in detail can be seen hovering over highly patterned and textured backgrounds. Other subject matter is inspired by her poetry or her own experiences and immediate surroundings.
