Kate MacKenzie

  • Project Details

Kate is an artist currently residing in Havelock North hawkes Bay.

In 1996 Kate joined casual art classes, which eventually enabled her to leave a career in accountancy, becoming a full time artist in 2001.

Kates style evolved into colourful images of quirky elongated figures, often with subtle humour and a Hawkes Bay Wine Country influence.
Elements of surrealism, expressionism and touches of abstract are mingled in a unique and highly personal blend. "I paint what I see, or feel, with an exaggeration and a twist”, and often with visual puns or wordplays.

Kate gained early success becoming a 3rd finalist in the telecom Art Awards in 2000 and 2001. She was then chosen as the feature artist for the notable annual Hawkes Bay Vintners Charity Wine Auction in 2002, with her painting titled "The Naked Bidder”.
Consequently a strong demand for Kate's work has followed, including commissions from businesses such as James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor in Wellington.

On Kate's canvas, the rules of physics are temporarily suspended as the world as we know it is whimsically re ordered at her command.
Prepare to be whisked through convention defying landscapes of magical realism, full of playful visual puns and hide-and-seek references to other genres. If you're a person who appreciates a slight tilted take on life, you'll love this uniquely personal vision.
