Latest info: Richard is currently working on a fresh new series of paintings on the Orua River and Manawatu region.

Born in Palmerston North in 1988, Richard was educated at Fielding High School.

Richard has always had a strong passion for painting which has been encouraged by his Father Matthew, who is an extremely talented potter as well as his Mother Sally who is an artist in her own right.

On leaving school with an interest in food, Richard attended Ucol and qualified as a professional chef. Long hours and commitment to restaurants left him with very little time to paint. He decided it would have to be one or the other, and now paints full time.

A lot of the inspiration for my paintings comes from the natural world around us. I don't just paint what I see, but I also try to include my emotions and feelings.
Particularly, the South Island scenery, which has some of the most glorious landscapes I have ever seen.
The mist in the Fiords is a constant inspiration and never fails to capture my imagination.
It is a continual challenge to capture these first impressions with paint and brush.
‘Painting, there's nothing quite like it! '
